Art Installation 2:
Tottenham Clouds
Tottenham Clouds was initially formed from local Cloud Appreciation Society members and Friends of the Rec members who were keen to encourage engagement with the clouds through information boards that displayed the various cloud formations which could be viewed from somewhere in the Rec.
A number of Friends of the Rec had visited the first officially recognised Cloud Appreciation Site in Lincolnshire which had an element of display and celebrated clouds. Their thoughts then turned to developing the first Cloud Appreciation Society official site in London - in Tottenham where Luke Howard lived and studied clouds and where his presence is still commemorated with the only English Heritage Blue Plaque in the area.
The cloud interpretation piece remains one of the main drivers of the group, and how this can become much more than a display board, but also a beacon and point of interest for the whole area encouraging everyone to look up at the sky and to celebrate this unique, internationally celebrated, aspect of our heritage in Tottenham.
